The Initial Situation:
A self-developed workflow engine based on Oracle is to be replaced by state-of-the-art BPMN process automation. The previous solution offers no standardized graphical support for modeling and automating processes.

Goals of the PoC:

The goal was to collaboratively implement a reference implementation with Camunda Platform to ensure the following points:

  • Reference Implementation of future processes and individual process steps
  • Establishment of a concept for reusability of services/templates
  • Integration and standardized access to existing services
  • Reference implementation for transparent parallel operation of the existing solution being replaced and Camunda Platform
  • Exemplary replacement of existing processes and services in (PL/SQL) through Camunda Platform and Java

Subsequently, the implementation of an initial example process was realized during ongoing operations.

Approximately 160 additional legacy processes in the old system will be gradually replaced according to the customer roadmap for production.

Camunda is thus increasingly taking on tasks. PL/SQL routines are gradually being replaced or supplemented by Java applications or Camunda script tasks.

Process modeling takes place collaboratively in BPMN.

Within just 10 days, we had the first prototype completed. This enabled us to showcase how to effectively integrate the Camunda platform and initiate the initial stages of digital transformation in practice.

“Quite impressive what has been created in such a short time.”
