About Andritz AG
Andritz AG, a globally recognized technology group headquartered in Austria with subsidiary companies and divisions in over 40 countries worldwide, is renowned for its innovative engineering solutions. The company specializes in diverse industries, including hydropower, pulp and paper, metalworking, and environmental technologies. With around 30,000 employees, Andritz stands out for its commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices, driving value for clients worldwide.
Due to its highly complex product catalog, Andritz faced significant challenges in automating its operational processes, as many of them were heavily dependent on manual actions within its SAP system. Processes like material number management or quotation and invoice handling require considerable human effort, leading to inefficiencies.
Extracting and processing data from incoming documents such as purchase orders, quotations, and invoices was particularly time-consuming, adding to the workload of their business operators. Moreover, various legacy automation within SAP added additional complexity to the overall process which made it difficult to maintain and hindered scalability.
To address these challenges, the Automation Anywhere automation platform was Andritz’s answer to implement an extensive automation strategy that revolutionized their operations.
Automation tools were employed for handling purchase orders, quotations and invoices more efficiently.
By leveraging the power of intelligent automation tools data is now automatically extracted from documents and emails, cross-checks in SAP are performed automatically, and various documents within the sales process, like quotations or sales orders, are generated automatically, making the overall end-to-end process more efficient.
Similarly, purchase order processing was streamlined using IDP to extract relevant data from incoming documents, while RPA routed this information to the appropriate teams, ensuring smooth and accurate handling.
Invoice management also transformed as automated workflows categorized incoming invoices, validated them against SAP records, and minimized manual effort.
A pivotal aspect of the solution was the establishment of a Mixed Team Model.
This innovative structure combined internal IT developers and managers, external development partners, citizen developers and key users from various business units, creating a collaborative framework for ongoing automation initiatives. This approach not only enhanced scalability but also empowered employees to contribute to process improvements.

The time savings amounted to substantial labor cost reductions, translating into annual savings of several thousand hours and substantial financial benefits.
Error rates dropped considerably, as automated processes ensured greater accuracy and consistency in data handling. The adoption of the Mixed Team Model proved instrumental in fostering innovation, enabling rapid development and deployment of automation projects across regions worldwide. Employees in business units were equipped with the tools to independently enhance their processes, further driving a culture of empowerment and efficiency.
